Welcome to the BHCOC Website


The Black History Committee of Orange County Inc. has been in existence for 20 years.


The Committee started as a group of Employees under the direction of Commissioner Mable Butler who wanted to commemorate and celebrate Black History Month in Orange County, Florida.


In 2002 the Committee became an independent organizaton whose main purpose is to celebrate the contributions African Americans have made to society, the United States of America, and the World.


Approximately fiteen dedicated volunteers from the community have been serving on this committee for over 10 years.


The Black History Committee of Orange County, Inc. has been a 501c3 organization since 2006.

2014 Schedule of Events


The Black History Committee of Orange County (BHCOC), Inc., would like to invite you to join us in commemorating and celebrating Black History Month February 2014. The Black History Committee has scheduled some exciting and educational events. The events will reflect the Organization's mission and our contributions to the Community. The BHCOC will award scholarships to students graduating from an Orange County Public High School, and who wish to continue their education at a college or university in the State of Florida. Awards will also be given to four outstanding individuals who have made excellent strides in the Community, Education, Humanitarianism, and Outstanding Service.


January 28, 2014 at 9:00 AM:
Black History Month Proclamation from Orange County Government proclaiming February 2014 as Black History Month. Event will be held in the Board of County Commissioners' Chambers, at the Orange County Administration Center, 201 S. Rosalind Avenue, Orlando, FL. 32801.


February 1, 2014 - February 28, 2014:
African American Art Exhibit will be on display in the Orange County Administration Building during the Month of February 2014.


February 7, 2014 at 6:00 PM:
Black History Networking Reception. Reception includes Educational information, Remembering contributions made by African Americans, Floetry, Chicago Style Stepping, Speed Networking, Refreshments, Spirits, Live Entertainment, and more. February 11, 2014 11:00 am to 2:00 PM:
Black History Month Celebration Luncheon in partnership with Orange County Government / Employees. The luncheon will be held on the Lawn at the Orange County Administration Center. A variety of food, books, and clothing vendors will sell their goods. Vendors will be charging for their food and products. Entertainment by ACE!. Also, includes an information and health fair by various Orange County Departments. Admission is Free! February 18, 2014 9:30 AM:
The Black History Committee of Orange County, Inc., presents A Storytelling Hour with Head Start Students attending Grand Avenue School. Students will be treated to an reenactment of an African American invention and Story. Goodies bags will be given to students.


March 1, 2014 6:00 PM:
Black History Month Celebration Gala: Comedian Rod Z will be the Master of Ceremony═ż Dr. Velma Scantlebury-White, MD, First Female Transplant Surgeon will be this years Keynote Speaker. There will be Live Jazz Entertainment. Awards will be given in Community Service, Humanitarianism, Education and Outstanding Service. Scholarships will be presented to various Colleges and Universities. The Gala will be held at the Rosen Centre Hotel, Junior Ballroom, 9840 International Drive, Orlando, 32819. Ticket Cost $75! Price includes Reception which starts at 6:00 pm, and Gala which starts at 7:15 pm.
